OVERVIEW

The Senior Research Analyst provides high-level research and related services to support the Firm’s multiple practice groups. Research tools encompass online databases, web resources, mobile applications, print materials, in-house knowledge management tools, vendors and service bureaus, other libraries, and other sources as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides excellent customer-focused research services to attorneys and staff, encompassing corporate filings, transaction lists, data and precedents, company and competitive intelligence, biographical materials, regulatory materials, secondary discussions of cases, statutes, rules, accounting materials, docket filings, expert witness materials, litigation analytics and other topics, as needed;
  • Performs in depth research on current and potential clients using web sources and internal data sources to identify opportunities for cross-selling and strategic targeting opportunities;
  • Analyzes search results, compiles reports and provides a written executive summary. Provides information critical to the Firm’s business development and competitive advantage initiatives;
  • Evaluates the suitability of print and online resources for application to a given project in terms of scope of information, accuracy, currency, cost, format and other relevant factors;
  • Demonstrates and applies thorough, up-to-date knowledge of key resources, such as Bloomberg, S&P Capital IQ, LSEG/Refinitiv, Factset, MergerMarket, Intelligize, Deal Point Data, ISS, Practical Law, PLI, Vital Law, Lexis, Pitchbook, Westlaw, Accurint, Activist Insight, Lex Machina, Bloomberg Law, Courtlink and others, as relevant to a given request;
  • Employs innovative, creative and proactive strategies to fulfill complex research requests;
  • Provides accurate, thorough and timely assistance under fast-paced, pressured conditions. Adapts to shifting schedules and priorities;
  • Trains and supports attorneys and staff in using online databases, print materials and knowledge management tools, as needed. Advises users on optimal choices for authoritative and cost-effective research;
  • Assists with developing formal orientation and training sessions and walk-in tours for incoming attorneys and staff, as necessary;
  • Prepares and updates annotated CravathNet legal research links, special topical lists and alerts and Spinoffs, EResources topics and descriptions, and/or other marketing and outreach materials aimed at new or existing users;
  • Handles interlibrary loan requests and evaluates the most cost effective options for large document requests using document service provider online subscriptions;
  • Researches and writes regular and systematic summaries and updates on topics of special interest to attorneys, as needed;
  • Continuously monitors the Quest system for incoming requests, and responds in a full, accurate and timely manner; Completes relevant fields and resolves the same day;
  • Uses project management and planning skills to prioritize competing assignments, works within recognized budgetary constraints and consistently meets tight deadlines;
  • Tests, evaluates and provides detailed feedback on new or updated technology and business applications, knowledge management tools and devices, as needed;
  • Continually reviews content and functionality of third-party databases. Contacts vendors to provide feedback, resolve issues and request enhancements;
  • Participates in pilots of new databases and detailed resource comparisons, as needed;
  • Sets appropriate priorities and completes projects in a timely manner;
  • Provides well-reasoned input into resource evaluation projects, assessing factors such as anticipated needs based on Firm practice, historical usage patterns, cost, formats, etc.;
  • Stays abreast of developments in legal research resources, whether print, online or web-based, in order to keep skills current. Monitors new additions to the Firm’s research collections to become familiar with the contents of new treatises and search tools;
  • Stays broadly informed of news and general trends affecting law firms as well as practice areas (M&A, securities, corporate governance and others);
  • Pursues continuing education opportunities, including in-house Learning and Development and CLE programs, reads professional literature and attends professional conferences as time permits;
  • Works effectively, both independently and collaboratively, with team members and cross-functionally;
  • Communicates professionally, clearly and effectively with users and colleagues. Contacts requestors, as necessary, to negotiate scope and deadlines. Organizes, summarizes and explains research sources, strategies and findings;
  • Assists with other research tasks and projects, as required; and
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master of Library Science (MLS) highly preferred. Demonstrated research and reference experience with equivalent skills, as well as expertise in a practice area critical to the Firm may be considered in lieu of an MLS;
  • 10 years of related experience in a law firm, corporation or investment banking library performing research;
  • Strong corporate and legal research experience, including proficiency with leading litigation, corporate, financial, capital markets and banking resources and materials;
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills to provide pin-pointed work product that is responsive to the needs of our lawyers and clients, as well as the ability to effectively problem-solve;
  • Demonstrated experience using AI to conduct research;
  • Strong proficiency in data collection and analysis, including the ability to organize, package and present information in response to requests;
  • Demonstrated project management and planning skills;
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills;
  • Ability to work well under pressure, coordinate several activities at one time and meet strict deadlines;
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with attorneys and staff at all levels;
  • Embraces change and integrates emerging research technologies and methodologies; and
  • Availability to work additional hours, as needed.

This position is located in our New York office, and currently has a rotational hybrid work schedule, but that is subject to change. The preferred hours for this position are 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday. The estimated salary range for this position is $120,000 to $130,000. The actual salary offered will be based on a wide range of factors, including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and where applicable, licensure or certification obtained. Market and Firm factors are also considered.
