OVERVIEW

The Conflicts Manager is responsible for the oversight and administration of the Firm’s conflicts of interest processes, ensuring compliance with all relevant ethical and risk management standards. This role manages a team of Conflicts Analysts, supervises the preparation and review of conflict reports, and maintains the integrity of the Firm’s conflicts database. The Manager serves as a key liaison between attorneys, Firm management and staff, providing guidance on conflict issues and ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and professionalism in all conflict-related matters.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervises and leads a team of Conflicts Analysts, providing ongoing training, goal-setting, guidance and regular feedback;
  • Leads a wide variety of departmental projects, from inception through completion, by setting clear objectives, assigning responsibilities and monitoring progress;
  • Assumes a lead role in application testing related to new business intake and conflict system upgrades, coordinating team participation and setting project milestones;
  • Implements and maintains a comprehensive staff training program and manual to ensure team proficiency, continuous learning and development;
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for conflict report-related inquiries from attorneys and staff, demonstrating strong communication skills while representing the department’s interests;
  • Oversees and prepares conflict reports in connection with new business, incoming attorneys and other initiatives, ensuring accuracy and timeliness through effective team coordination;
  • Utilizes internal and external resources for pertinent information relating to corporate relationships and structures on potential clients and other parties;
  • Communicates with attorneys and other personnel regarding conflict check results, to gather any additional information or data for conflict checks and to clarify any discrepancies in the new business form;
  • Ensures that all information (e.g., party names, party positions, etc.) entered into the conflicts system is accurate and up to date;
  • Maintains and updates the conflicts of interest database, ensuring data integrity and the removal of duplicate or outdated entries;
  • Oversees the maintenance of the client engagement database, including waivers and engagement letters;
  • Manages the implementation of ethical walls and other risk management protocols as required;
  • Determines when it is necessary to elevate an issue to other members of the Office of the General Counsel (OGC);
  • Keeps current with trends and best practices in conflicts management through professional development and industry research, sharing insights with the team;
  • In collaboration with OGC leadership, makes hiring and staffing decisions, which includes interviewing, selecting and training new team members;
  • Works with Human Resources on performance management issues including the annual review process for employees; and
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • Five or more years of experience in conflicts of interest administration within a legal environment;
  • At least two years of progressively responsible supervisory or managerial experience (title will be dependent upon work experience);
  • Considerable knowledge of conflicts of interest procedures and best practices;
  • Proficiency in Intapp Conflicts, Intake, and Walls;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint;
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills;
  • Self-motivated and ability to work well in a team setting;
  • Strong written and oral communication abilities, with the capacity to interact effectively with all levels of firm personnel;
  • Ability to quickly learn new software and applications;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and work under pressure within tight deadlines;
  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, and team-building skills; and
  • Availability to work weekday evenings, weekends and additional hours, as needed.

This position is located in our New York office, and currently has a hybrid work schedule, but that is subject to change. The estimated salary range for this position is $160,000 to $200,000. The actual salary offered will be based on a wide range of factors, including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and where applicable, licensure or certification obtained. Market and Firm factors are also considered.
