OVERVIEW

The Senior Practice Manager for Cravath's Corporate departments (Corporate, Tax, ECB and T&E) works directly with the Corporate Managing Partner on a wide variety of associate-related matters including work allocation and rotations, data analysis, attorney reviews and general professional development needs. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in the legal field both in practice and administration along with excellent professional judgment. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates regularly with Firm leadership, including Partners, the Director of Legal Personnel and the Head of Professional Development, to align capabilities with practice specific needs and priorities;
  • Oversees, executes and enhances the review process for relevant populations (Corporate, Tax, T&E and ECB (together, “Corporate”) associates), including analyzing relevant review data;
  • Leads the rotation process for current Corporate associates and maintains relevant documentation;
  • Oversees the partner assignment process for all new Corporate hires;
  • Supports Partners in identifying work allocation, engagement, and/or associate development matters;
  • Tracks professional development information for relevant population;
  • Conducts check-in meetings with incoming associates and rotating associates and continues to serve as point of contact for Corporate associates;
  • Conducts exit interviews, along with members of the Legal Talent team, with associates in relevant populations;
  • Facilitates Corporate caucuses;
  • Works with the Corporate Managing Partner to solicit secondment interest;
  • Manages associate and Partner seating assignments and needs;
  • Analyzes Firm departures and identifies trends, sharing key takeaways with leadership and helping to develop actionable recommendations;
  • Assists with the development, implementation, and coordination of associate development initiatives and morale events;
  • In partnership with the Practice Manager – Litigation, ensures seamless support across functions and conducts shared analysis of Firmwide data related to the associate practice and professional experience; 
  • Manages team members and facilitates their professional growth and development;
  • Works closely with other Legal Personnel teams and with various Firm departments to provide information and insight regarding relevant associate populations;
  • Works closely with various Firm departments on execution of function, including data collection and reporting related to relevant associate populations;
  • Drafts, edits and maintains necessary checklists, organizational charts, spreadsheets and documents;
  • With partner input, leads innovation projects within the practice from concept to completion;
  • Stays apprised of developments in other practice groups, departments and across the Firm;
  • Provides assistance on ad-hoc projects; and
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • JD with high academic standing;
  • At least 7 years of related professional experience, including prior legal practice experience and at least 1-3 years in a practice management, professional development or talent management role within a large law firm;
  • Ability to work effectively with others, particularly senior-level members of the Firm;
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint and Excel;
  • Ability to analyze and present data, drawing accurate conclusions and make appropriate recommendations, as needed;
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, including solid composition and editing skills;
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work well independently, as well as within a team structure;
  • Motivation to learn and ability to adapt to change;
  • Problem-solving ingenuity with ability to proactively identify problems and recommend solutions;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and coordinate several activities simultaneously, often under strict time constraints;
  • Ability to take and follow instructions, as well as delegate effectively;
  • Strong organization, project and people management skills; and
  • Ability to work additional hours, as needed.

This position is located in our New York office, and currently has a hybrid work schedule, but that is subject to change. The estimated salary range for this position is $200,000 to $250,000. The actual salary offered will be based on a wide range of factors, including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and where applicable, licensure or certification obtained. Market and Firm factors are also considered.
