OVERVIEW

The Manager of Paralegal Services works closely with the Firm’s paralegal management and paralegal services teams to manage work allocation and resources related to the Firm’s Corporate Paralegal function across all offices. This role will meet the Firm’s standards of excellence in supporting our paralegal teams and deliver superior service to our clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees daily paralegal operations with a focus on the Corporate Paralegal population, ensuring effectiveness in the level of service provided;
  • Works closely with department and Firm leadership to analyze and set annual hiring goals;
  • Plays a key role in recruiting process for both entry level and experienced candidates;
  • Assists with orientation program planning and in-house training sessions for all new paralegals;
  • Communicates directly with attorneys at all levels to assess workload requirements and effectively plan staffing strategies for transactions;
  • Identifies skill gaps within Corporate Paralegal population and facilitates training efforts, as appropriate;
  • As part of paralegal management team, implements, monitors and ensures compliance with various paralegal-related policies and collaborates with Human Resources regularly on policy interpretation and developments;
  • Participates in the handling of personnel-related issues, counsels paralegals on work performance and identifies areas for improvement;
  • Prepares and delivers annual performance evaluations for all Paralegals, Senior Paralegals and Practice Group Paralegals;
  • ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Provides support to the Associate Director of Paralegal Services by monitoring resource allocation and productivity of paralegal teams across all offices, including monitoring and updating all related internal tracking resources;
  • Implements and monitors centralized system for analysis of work allocation to staff paralegal teams;
  • Meets regularly with internal leadership and coordinates with partners and/or senior attorneys regarding staffing and resource needs, as well as project updates and practice area developments applicable to paralegals;
  • Reviews paralegal hours and work allocation within practice groups and between case teams, billable and non-billable matters and overtime reports through weekly, monthly and quarterly analysis, and enhances the effectiveness and use of related reports;
  • Partners with the Financial Planning and Analysis department to present key data trends and takeaways related to paralegal and legal staff work allocation, as requested;
  • Collaborates with the Firm’s Pro Bono team to ensure that all paralegals are provided opportunities to work on matters and monitors these efforts, as needed;
  • Assists with the preparation of the annual budgets;
  • Assists with various ad hoc projects, as needed;
  • Exhibits flexibility and willingness to take on new responsibilities and assignments as they are identified; and
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • 8+ years of experience in a related role, including supervisory or managerial experience, preferably within in a legal or other professional services environment;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively present metrics and key data points, both in writing and verbally;
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills, and the ability to synthesize and interpret numerical data and metrics effectively;
  • High level of practice management expertise and a strong ability to effectively execute on initiatives key to the success of the paralegal program;
  • Ability to work and interact with partners, attorneys and professional staff at all levels and develop a strong knowledge of the Firm;
  • Strong project management and leadership skills, and the ability to work with others to identify issues, problem solve, obtain consensus and implement change;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and coordinate multiple matters at a time;
  • Excellent judgment and ability to deal discreetly with confidential information; and
  • Availability to work additional hours and travel for business-related purposes, as needed.

 

This position is located in our New York office, and currently has a hybrid work schedule, but that is subject to change. The estimated salary range for this position is $155,000 to $180,000. The actual salary offered will be based on a wide range of factors, including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and where applicable, licensure or certification obtained. Market and Firm factors are also considered.
