OVERVIEW

The Law Clerk handles a variety of tasks that support the Firm’s attorneys and support staff with a specific focus on the effective electronic filing of court documents.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Researches court filing requirements and assists case teams with the electronic filings;
  • Drafts affidavits of service;
  • Trains paralegal teams on electronic filing of court papers and supports case teams;
  • Works with administrative court personnel to rectify issues that arise throughout an action;
  • Identifies relevant litigation precedent from internal and external databases, including CourtAlert, PACER, Bloomberg Law, Lexis, Westlaw and Lex Machina;
  • Accesses public and private online services in response to attorney requests for information and/or documents filed in state and federal courts nationwide;
  • Arranges for service of process of pleadings and discovery subpoenas and arranges for court reporters to transcribe depositions;
  • Researches requirements for pro hac vice and permanent admissions to federal and state courts; prepares pro hac vice applications;
  • Prepares notices of appearance for attorneys in state and federal courts;
  • Maintains various departmental databases and assists with reporting, as needed;
  • Conducts research with respect to state and federal court admissions requirements;
  • Provides notary services as requested for attorneys, legal support staff and clients;
  • Attends the State and Federal courts, primarily in the New York City area, to manually file documents and/or copy documents from court files;
  • Files corporate documents in local government offices; obtains apostilles so that executed documents may be filed in foreign countries;
  • Reviews and analyzes court dockets and documents retrieved from PACER, Courtlink and Bloomberg Law in connection with research projects;
  • Sets up state and federal court monitors for cases in which the Firm has not appeared;
  • Assists with special projects, as needed; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • At least 2-5 years of related work experience in a large corporate litigation law firm;
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and written and oral communication skills;
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and coordinate several tasks at same time;
  • Must be capable of solving problems and meeting strict deadlines;
  • Familiarity with litigation documents, electronic court filing procedures, and court procedures for processing litigation documents;
  • Understanding of and familiarity with service of process requirements;
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel;
  • Familiarity with CourtAlert Case Management, PACER, and Adobe PDF preferred; and
  • Ability to work overtime, as needed.

 

This position is located in our New York office, and currently has a hybrid work schedule, but that is subject to change. The hours for this position are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, Monday through Friday. The estimated salary range for this position is $70,000 to $95,000 plus overtime. The actual salary offered will be based on a wide range of factors, including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and where applicable, licensure or certification obtained. Market and Firm factors are also considered.
