OVERVIEW

THE JOB:

We are seeking a hands-on technical manager to lead a five-person team, responsible for managing all physical IT infrastructure (excluding networking) and several core systems, for the Firm.

 

The successful candidate will have extensive hands-on experience and deep knowledge of the full stack of Microsoft domain and network services, physical and virtual servers, desktop virtualization, load balancers, network storage, backups and cloud services.

 

In the pivotal role, the Manager will leverage their technical acumen and management skills to lead the team to deliver world-class operations, while driving technical innovation.

 

The candidate should thrive while working in a fast-paced, 24x7 operational environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

WHAT A SYSTEMS ENGINEERING MANAGER DOES AT CRAVATH:

Technology Management:

  • Microsoft On-Premise Services: Leads the management of Microsoft Active Directory, DFS, ADFS, DNS, DHCP, and PKI services.

  • Microsoft Cloud Services: Ensures the efficient operation and secure utilization of Azure services and Microsoft Entra ID.

  • Servers: Ensures the efficient patching, security compliance, and uptime of both physical and virtual servers.

  • VMWare: Ensures the efficient patching, security compliance, and uptime of the virtual host environment.

  • Desktop Virtualization: Oversees the operation and maintenance of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops platform to ensure seamless remote access for our users.

  • Netscaler: Oversees the Netscaler environment to ensure all applications remain highly available.

  • Network Storage: Maintains multi-protocol storage systems, optimizing availability, security and performance.

  • Data Protection: Ensures that data protection strategies are maintained and improved.

  • Identity Access Management: Manages and improves the multi-factor authentication, password policy enforcement, certificate platforms and related systems.

  • Automation: Develops automation solutions (platforms, processes and PowerShell scripts) to streamline operations.

  • Monitoring: Oversees related monitoring and management systems, to ensure system uptime, file and system activity auditing.

  • Security Platforms: Implements and manages security platforms, including file activity monitoring and password policy filtering.


Team
Management:

  • Team Leadership: Leads, mentors and builds team responsible for all data center related systems and processes.

  • Technical Leadership: Shares experience and ideas to enhance the team and IT department.

  • Training: Ensures the team regularly receives training to enhance their skills and expertise.

  • Management: Proactively manages the systems and team, to ensure uptime, efficient operations, service delivery, project success and technical innovation.

  • Documentation: Establishes and enhances documented system standards, operating procedures, and business continuity plans to ensure consistent and secure operations.

  • Hands-on: Contribute to the overall success of the team and organization by leveraging expertise.

  • Additional: Performs other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

LET'S TALK IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING:

 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably in computer science, systems, information technology, management information systems, or a related field;
  • Relevant technology training and certifications are a plus;
  • Proven progressive experience managing the full stack of Microsoft domain and network services (including ADFS/AAD and PKI), physical and virtual servers, desktop virtualization, load balancers, network storage, backups and cloud services;
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in architecting, managing and supporting high availability, critical IT infrastructure, such as: storage, server virtualization, Citrix CVAD, or load balancers;
  • Minimum of 5 years managing a team directly responsible for supporting critical IT infrastructure;
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and the capacity to handle incidents and provide effective solutions;
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to oversee projects from initiation to completion;
  • Extensive experience automating processes through the use of systems and scripts, from concept through implementation;
  • Strong documentation skills, ensuring clear and comprehensive resources for system support;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively;
  • Enthusiasm and adaptability, with the ability to quickly acquire new skills and knowledge;
  • Expert working knowledge of IT security best practices;
  • Strong focus and excellent attention to detail while working in a fast-paced and energetic environment; and
  • Availability to work additional hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.


This position is located in our New York office, and currently has a hybrid work schedule, but that is subject to change. The estimated salary range for this position is $175,000 to $225,000. The actual salary offered will be based on a wide range of factors, including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and where applicable, licensure or certification obtained. Market and Firm factors are also considered.
