OVERVIEW

The Senior Litigation Paralegal at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP works in a team environment assisting litigation attorneys in all phases of the litigation lifecycle, from the discovery period through trial, as well as in post-trial and appeal. The ideal candidate will know how to meet the Firm’s standards of excellence in supporting our attorney teams, deliver superior service to our clients and assist with the mentoring and training of entry-level litigation paralegals. Availability for overtime and travel are essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates workflow for one specific team, often serving in the role of team leader;
  • Uses both skills and experience to manage team matters and effectively deploy Firm standard processes and procedures;
  • Reviews and analyzes documents for production;
  • Categorizes documents by subject, prepares chronologies of facts and reviews transcripts during the discovery phase;
  • Works closely with attorney teams and Technical Litigation Support in managing and tracking complex document productions;
  • Has an advanced understanding of the discovery applications used to effectively support our litigation teams;
  • Conducts various database searches and factual research to assist teams in the review and management of case-critical information throughout the life of a case;
  • Organizes and maintains pleadings and correspondence files relevant to assigned cases using both traditional and automated procedures;
  • Understands and assists with the process of e-filing with various courts and governmental agencies;
  • Responsible for document organization and production, including number-stamping, redacting, photocopying, and indexing of documents;
  • Responsible for auditing documents, as required, to ensure accuracy of production;
  • Maintains and tracks production logs;
  • Prepares for and attends depositions (gathers documents relevant to the deponent, organizes exhibits, attends the deposition, takes notes, manages materials and prepares exhibits);
  • Prepares for and attends trial (organizes trial exhibits, files, and all other supporting materials and makes arrangements for transporting and setting up case materials at court);
  • During trial, must anticipate the needs of the team as well as assisting in the handling, marking, tracking, and organizing of all trial exhibits and testimony;
  • Assists with the preparation of motions (pulls relevant documents, proofreads, puts together exhibits, and indexes documents for table of contents);
  • Assists with training of newly hired litigation paralegals and is responsible for the review of the work product of entry-level paralegals to ensure Firm standards are met; and
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree with high academic standing required;
  • 2-5 years of experience as a Litigation Paralegal;
  • Blue-booking and cite checking experience is preferred;
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills;
  • Advanced knowledge of technology and database applications;
  • Must be able to travel for extended periods, sometimes on short notice, as necessary;
  • Must be detail oriented;
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and coordinate several activities at one time;
  • Able to take and follow instructions as well as delegate tasks to others;
  • Must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 40 pounds;
  • Proficiency in MS Office including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint,Outlook, and ability to learn other systems used within the Firm including PeopleSoft, Case Notebook and Opus 2, Adobe Acrobat, Lexis and Westlaw, as well as various third-party hosted databases; and
  • Availability to work overtime, as needed.

This position is located in our New York office, and currently has a hybrid work schedule, but that is subject to change. The hours for this position are 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m, Monday through Friday. The estimated salary range for this position is $66,000 to $85,000 plus overtime. The actual salary offered will be based on a wide range of factors, including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and where applicable, licensure or certification obtained. Market and Firm factors are also considered.
